Bangkok Week 731

June 30, 2022

I can’t believe it! It’s Arlo’s last week of school already! And it’s the last week of June. Where’s the time gone? We have a great weekend outing to the park, too. Let the good times roll!

Welcome back! Lucy is safeguarding Arlo's new parking lot while he's at school today.

She's also practicing her tummy time.

Back at home, Arlo tells Lucy all about his first day back at school after being sick.

It's a special Friday night dinner! Urban Pantry, supplemented by Arlo's favorite fluffy pita bread.

Saturday morning breakfast challenge: eating muesli with chopsticks.

Heading to the park, for the first time in a long time.

Arlo brought his scooting gear. Let's go!

Well, he's definitely improved since last time we were here...

... but he's still very easily distracted, and so overall speed is, well, slow.

Lucy is enjoying the view; she wasn't nearly this upright in the stroller last time we were here.

He's recently taken a liking to the baby blanket given to him by Bronwyn almost 3 years ago.

Arlo brought his learning journey home today. What a nice way to document the school year.

We went to a drop-in playgroup for pre-crawlers called "glow bugs". It was just Lucy's speed.

And Dad brought home some special Thai desserts for Arlo to try, from his morning work trip.

It seems the Captain is still living under our roof.

Everyone's thrilled to be going for an evening walk!

Arlo's stamina for running has certainly gotten really good.

Special pizza dinner, since K. Noi's been out sick.

It’s an action-packed week: two swimming lessons; a trip to the farm; Lucy turns 3 months old; Arlo goes to the barber; and everyone is still getting over the cold with the never-ending mucus!

We can no longer visit the farm without stopping fo ice cream. Someone's memory is too good.

After swimming, we popped into this cafe and roaster. According to our new (Aussie) neighbors, it's the best coffee in Bangkok.

Bangkok Week 729

Arlo had a busy weekend: there was an exciting open-house hosted at his school. Then he had a great swimming lesson on Sunday (which Dad was able to join). And if that weren’t enough, he was given a beautiful new cactus! Meanwhile, Lucy is diligently practicing her tummy time!

Hello and happy Friday! Lucy's on her way to breastfeeding cafe!

And this is Lucy's newest favorite toy: her first! Oh-so-yummy.

Saturday morning: we have a busy day ahead! Arlo's on point for waking up Lucy.

Time to get up, sleepy head! (Lucy's content to sleep in; it's Saturday, after all!)

Arlo's school is hosting an open-house (for current students) at the older campus.

The theme is "Enchanted Forest", and everything is decorated accordingly.

After acclimating himself, Arlo heads to...

... the food zone. One ice cream cone, please!

Arlo's second-ever ice cream cone. Now, how to eat this with a mask on?

And Arlo met a little birdie...

... who sat comfortably on Arlo's shoulder.

And he got a special glitter tattoo...

... that lasted the better part of a week!

Lucy attended as well; her view of the school looked good, too.

... and down the slide! This slide is bigger than the one at Blu Bam Boo.

They even have a floor-level trampoline!

Well, that went about as well as we could have hoped!

Then, Arlo sat down to make a magic wand with all his favorite TAs.

And he helped add the ribbon and sparkly pipe cleaners... in a nice concentrated wrap on the top. Done!

Oh. My. Goodness. They have a road roller at this school. And a grader. This school is the best!

Look at this. The grader is actually a monster truck, and has jumped up on top of the road roller.

Arlo has found his niche.

We head down to Trad for an extended long-weekend. It’s Lucy’s first visit, and Arlo’s first since the Christmas holidays. Fun times for everyone, despite the almost-constant rain.

Arlo and Lucy are lucky to have Yaa here for another week! We’ve started to go for evening stroller walks with Lucy, now that the days are longer and she can sit still a bit. And Arlo has a playdate with a friend he hasn’t seen in ages!

(NB: we know this week is 1 day short. We’ll lump our entire Trat visit together in next week’s album 😉)

Wow! Another busy week over here! Lucy turns 2 months old; Puu and Yaa come to Bangkok to meet Lucy and play with Arlo (for the first time in a LONG time); Arlo hosts us at school for not one, but TWO stay-and-play events; and he gets to show his grandparents his new house. Phew!

Lucy turns 2 months today! What a big girl!

Oh wow! Back at home, there's a special gift waiting for Arlo. And it made him speechless!

It's a cactus reference book! Wowzers!

Poor K. Noi is going to know the scientific names of all the cacti soon.

Yaa's job in the morning is to help Arlo drink his milk, and brush his hair. Of course, Arlo cooperates always.

We knew she was big, but didn't realize that Lucy's head is already the size of Dad's!

It was Arlo's classmate Manta's birthday at school... and she handed out Manta Ray Cake Pops to all her classmates! Wow!

Then, we had a visit from Aa Sao and Lung Khun, relatives who hadn't yet met Lucy *or* Arlo.

She's originally from Trat too, but lives in Bangkok now.

So many new voices for Lucy!

But she doesn't seem to mind.

Arlo, meanwhile, acted like he's known them his entire life. Look at all these cacti!

So many cacti, not enough people to talk to about them!

The next morning at school, Arlo demonstrated how to play with the water table. First, you get a coconut shell...

... and you use it to pour water over the water wheel.

But wait, there's an even better option!

The watering can is more refined!

Lucky Lucy inherited a huge sack of cute girlie outfits from Alba and Ines. Here she's modeling one.

And now, it's rest time.

At pick-up time, Arlo gives a tour of the garden.

He seems to have learned that shaking the trees helps "berries" drop...

And the next morning, it's Stay and Play for Arlo's new class. He's dressed to impress!

This one is first thing in the morning. So not only can we drop him off as usual, but stay for another 90 minutes!

Arlo is super keen to take us upstairs... and he makes a beeline for the sand room!

He has the whole room to himself, and wastes no time showing us all the different trucks.

Now I understand why Arlo likes the older class so much. This stay-and-play is indeed very enlightening!

He had to be enticed away, to show us other parts of the school.

And that lasted as long as you'd expect. Now, they're reading about the Tiger who came to tea.

Bangkok Week 725

Arlo’s learned to love the sand box; we’re all pros at cycling to and from school; oh, and, we bought a new house!

Unfortunately, we start this week with an unplanned trip to the doctor for Arlo.

Mum hacks her way through a Thai storybook about going to the doctor, while waiting for Arlo's to show up.

Arlo needs the nebulizer again.

He's a good sport about it this time... especially because he gets to watch videos!

And he's much better about wearing the mask, too.

As a reward, he gets to see the train tracks (no sign of the train cars themselves) on the sick kids' side of the children's center.

An even better reward: a trip to the mini park! Look at the bird bath!

He's enjoying it, despite what this picture would make you think.

Lucy's face of skepticism is maturing as she does.

Uh oh! Here comes Big Brother Arlo!

Lucy's neck strength is improving by the day!

It's Mum's first time taking Arlo for a spin around the block in his new bike seat.

A low-key week in the neighborhood! Lucy tries on some new styles for fit, and Arlo gets a new ride!

Everyone is all sobs and tears; it’s Granny’s last week with us! At least we were able to pack a punch, and make the most of it!

Hello, Friday! says Lucy, who has nothing to hide!

We're at Breastfeeding Cafe again... and despite being late, we're the first ones!

Just chilling, and enjoying having the whole place to ourselves.

Meanwhile at school, Arlo supervises his peers during art time.

A special guest goes to pick up Arlo at the end of the school day.

An exciting new "toy" is waiting for Arlo when he gets up from his nap!

Fun, last-minute surprise for Mum: dinner with (former) colleagues, one of whom is in town from Manila for the first time in years.

Saturday morning treats: Dad's PlanToys team sent over some beautiful gifts for both Lucy and Arlo.

Oh no! It’s Grandpa’s last week in Bangkok! Better do all the outstanding things on the checklist — like playing Songkran, visiting Benjakitti Forest Park, having a nice lunch out, and taking Arlo to school again!

... to finally check out the new, much-hyped Forest Park.

The new Forest Park is huge -- maybe around 48 hectares -- and features elevated walkways over top a variety of landscapes and plantscapes below.

They did well by preserving the big, old trees from the Tobacco Monopoly land.

It really is a refuge from the big city, right in the middle of the city.

Lucy was awake to see a lot of it, too.

Hopefully more wildlife will start to inhabit the area now that the construction is complete.

They are very natural islands, after all.

The Songkran long weekend continues, as does Arlo’s school break. But have no fear, it’s a busy week nonetheless: Arlo goes ice skating for the very first time… and then a second time! He does his first Easter Egg hunt! We (attempt to) dye Easter Eggs. We track down a delicious new donut shop right in our own back yard. And Little Lucy turns one month old! (And spoiler: she’s not so little anymore!)

We did a lot this week, despite the holidays! Lucy and Mum made their first solo outing together; Arlo got his flu shot; we finally got to see the Toyota Veloz in person; Arlo introduced Grandpa to the Farm and the Park; and we all celebrated Songkran in style!

Here in Bangkok, we celebrate a milestone birthday for Granny! And we enjoy unusually cool weather (with good air!) with warm drinks in the park. And to cap it all off, Grandpa arrives in Bangkok for the first time in over 2 1/2 years. Welcome back, Grandpa!

Baby Lucy has made herself comfortable at home now.

And now that her belly button stump has fallen off, it's time for our first proper bath at home!

Lucy is getting used to life at home. And so is Arlo, whose class is closed for a week because of a COVID case. That’s okay; lots of time to play together as a family!

March 24, 2022

This week began like any other unassuming, normal week, but ended with a +1 ! Baby Lucy made her surprise entrance 5 days early, on Sunday, March 20th. And Arlo is a proud big brother now.

A Friday treat: Puu came up to visit Arlo (and to see his eye doctor).

Another low-key week, as Arlo recovers from his string of colds/viruses. But that doesn’t mean we just sat around at home!

We begin our Friday with a trip to the doctor, to investigate Arlo's prolonged digestive challenges.

Arlo enjoys visiting the hospital now, because it always includes a trip to the "mini-park", thanks to Dad's privilege.

Back at home, Granny gives Arlo his very own Baby to take care of.

Since Arlo is skipping swimming today, we can fit in a Saturday morning trip to the park!

March 10, 2022

It was a week of mixed emotions! Granny arrived on Tuesday morning! But poor Arlo was sick for the entire week, and only went to school for one half-day. Arlo can’t wait to try out his new ice skates!

The Serial Pickler, probably Bangkok's most well-known (western) pickle makers, just relocated to Ekkamai 12. So we stopped by on the way to pick up Arlo from school.

20 kinds of pickles to choose from: sold both in jars and industrial-grade bags.

Meanwhile, operation re-wire is in Week 3 along Ekkamai 12.

And the highlight of Arlo's day: getting to drive himself home in the tuk-tuk!

A more laid-back weekend than the last one. But at least Arlo got to see some friends. And we took a visit to the farm.

We have a few minutes to spare, while waiting for the Tuk Tuk to depart. So Arlo shows us around his school.

After being at home with Mum and Dad all week, Arlo had a fun-filled weekend: a trip to the farm, and an exciting day at Dreamworld, filled with firsts!

Uh oh! We're supposed to be getting Arlo dressed. But we've lost him among his friends!

Bangkok Week 712

Arlo had a busy week: and he didn’t even go to school! Swimming, a staycation on the river, a wedding and a boat ride, and lots of activities at home to keep him entertained during the break.

It was a wet Friday at school. Arlo's face says it all!

A huge delivery from Trat arrived, too. So lucky!

Working on one of the Rose Apples from Trat, while having his diaper changed. What a life!

Remember how I said that a heavy downpour killed all the melon sprouts but one?

Oh! Looks like we're going to have another pumpkin flower soon.

Watching K. Noi drive away on her motorcycle. Fascinating.

The next morning, Arlo came out to inspect the pumpkin plant.

Indeed! It's bloomed again!

And now, the highlight of the weekend: swimming class!

Arlo's a little lazy when he's in the noodle. Have to remember to paddle and kick!

Diving for the sinker: Arlo's favorite activity for sure.

A quick change of clothes, and then a change of scene: spending a night staycationing at the Shangri-La.

We're lucky to have another great view from our room.

And we know what Arlo will be riding all weekend.

And now, we're all ready for our evening event: a wedding on the other side of the river.

Arlo is proud to be wearing such a fancy suit.

But first: a quick stop for dinner on the way out.

And riding the Icon Siam shuttle boat, over to the other side.

Arlo hasn't ridden a boat since last time we were at this hotel!

Smile! And best wishes to the Bride and Groom, on their much-delayed wedding.

Lucky us: we also happened to catch an elaborate fountain-and-ligthts show at 6:30.

I think Arlo was overwhelmed by everything. And tired.

So many people, and so many lights!

Oh! And we got back to the room in time to catch a fireworks show down at Asiatique.

They were a little loud for Arlo's taste.

The next morning, Arlo is up nice and early, to commentate on the activities in the river.
