Bangkok Week 652

December 24, 2020

Arlo spends a wonderful long weekend with his grandparents in Trat; including a special 2-night stay on the white sandy beach! What a nice start to the tropical Christmas holiday!

... but heading out to Trat again so soon!

We gave Arlo one Christmas present early: a tractor!

And what a great tractor: Arlo approves!

Saturday morning: just making sure his belly button is still there.

Although Mr. Chipper might not realize just how long the ride ahead is.

Every Saturday, Trat has a walking street along the road with many old wooden houses.

Seems like a popular event!

Lots of home-made food, and some clothes too.

Arlo was pretty jazzed about it. It helped that there were lots of small bands (many of them students) throughout.

Back at home, it's dinner time for Arlo: a face-off.

And a birthday cake for Aa Top! (Although somehow, this photo makes it look like Arlo's birthday...)

The next (chilly) morning, helping Puu in the store.

Oh wait! Isn't there a truck to drive?

Playing in his bathtub, which we'd left at the door to make sure we don't forget it.

Hmm. The bathtub looks different, but I can't quite put my finger on why...

A short drive later, and we're at the Centara in Trat, along the eastern-most coast of Thailand.

Compared to all the hotels in Hua Hin, this really feels like a nice, secluded Island resort!

Nevertheless, Arlo has fun.

But the real fun to be had was beachside.

Awake and refreshed... it's time to get some exercise!

We drove to another beach about 10km further along the road for lunch.

It was even windier, and the waves were wilder! What a view.

Arlo's not so sure: it might be too wild for his taste!

Dad doesn't seem too fussed; enjoying the nice breeze in a hammock.

Okay, maybe this isn't so bad.

That's a lot of food for the 5 of us!

Where to begin!?

Back at the hotel, Arlo sits out on the balcony, watching ants.

Pretty pleased with himself, and all the ants he pointed out.

Arlo insisted on visiting the water fountain again... and he couldn't help but touch it!

We continued our walking tour of the hotel: check out these wheels!

And a stretch golf cart, all for Arlo!

And even a little jungle walk.

Hmm! What a strange looking flower.

And time for another late-afternoon swim. Judging by Arlo and Dad, the water's still chilly!

Yup! These are definitely winter swimming conditions.

Wednesday morning: another winter one. Helping Puu at the store.

And having one last "spin" on the truck.

Arlo would love to take this truck back to Bangkok with him.

Bangkok Week 651

Another big week of firsts for Arlo: his first time riding a shopping cart; finger painting; meeting Santa; and saying good-bye to a friend leaving Thailand.

We continue this long-weekend with a pants-less boy standing watch on a stool.

Still not so sure about this "camera".

Running free at a craft fair at EmQuartier.

And a rite of passage: Arlo's first ride in a shopping cart.

Vroom vroom! Arlo liked it!

Stopping to inspect the Christmas decorations before heading home.

Another first: finger painting!

Arlo takes his art work very seriously.

Why limit this exploration to my hands, when I can paint with my whole body? True artists know no limits.

And a whole body affair it was!

All cleaned up... and then hugs for Spike.

This one's for Grandpa: Arlo decided it's only fair to give the Grinch a chance at this time of year.

A special dinner: trying a new Indian restaurant that's exclusively vegetarian/vegan.

A Saturday morning treat: having a run-around at Conkey's.

They kindly let Arlo try their tricycle.

Arlo was psyched. He can't wait to go-go-go on his own!

Then, the staff of the Sally-and-Arlo furniture moving company paid a visit.

A busy week for Arlo, and a really short work week for Mum! Playdates, walks, and two swimming lessons!

We had a wonderful, wet, busy stay in Hua Hin over Thanksgiving weekend! Oh, and Happy December!

Roadtrip to Hua Hin! First stop: bathroom break!

Then, we made a short stop to visit Arlo's friend Dante, whom he hasn't seen in a year.

Arlo, ever the socialite, stole Dante's truck and then played by himself.

No clue he's done something considered wrong.

Sharing Dante's wheels: that's nice.

Bouncing on the recliners together. What fun!

And relaxing with Dad. What a nice beach life.

What!? Back in the car already?

Finally at our destination! The Kids' Club at the Sheraton!

Arlo wastes no time finding the trucks and cars.

Bangkok Week 647

Wow! Did Arlo have a busy week or what! A packed visit to Trat; a visit to the doctor’s; and an exciting playgroup. What a big, busy boy!

Arlo celebrates his second halloween 🎃 in style 🐠, with his friends. And he went to a few new playgroups for the first time, too. What a busy week!

Arlo had a busy 3-day weekend. And swimming finally resumed, too! Lucky boy!

A Friday public holiday? Arlo is not convinced.

It must be true: no K. Noi. Only Dad & Mum.

What a busy week! Arlo had a day full of surprises planned for Mum’s birthday. And he spent Saturday with his friend, P’Kate; Sunday at EmQuartier; Tuesday at Decathalon; and of course, Wednesday was swim day! Phew!

Arlo got up extra early to wish Mum a happy birthday.

Now that we've got so much time, let's play with our toys!

We've cycled through all the toys, and are onto the utensils.

Arlo got Mum a nicely wrapped present! Which he's helping to open.

Arlo hosts a bunch of his friends for pizza and cake, to celebrate his birthday. He’s so lucky to have so many friends who want to come and celebrate with him!

Our little Master Arlo turns 1 year old this week!* Where has the time gone? It feels like only yesterday that we welcomed this little boy into our family. Happy Birthday, big buddy!

*And that’s a great excuse to go away for a 3-day weekend.

We’re fortunate to have another 4-day weekend! And Arlo’s schedule was packed!

Starting this long weekend on the right foot: with dad and a story!

Wow! It’s September already! Lucky Arlo gets to ring in his birthday month by spending a long weekend in Trad, with his Puu, Yaa, and Aa Top! And many, many more people for that matter.

Friday night, and it's pouring rain. The soi is flooded. Uh oh!

Finishing his dinner while checking out the floodwaters.

Excited for Saturday morning! Although Arlo has no idea what's in store for him soon!

A loooong drive to Trat! (And he's wondering why his neck is sore.)

Mr. Sociable’s diary was fully booked this week! No wonder he’s exhausted now! (Lucky Arlo to have so many nice friends!)

Hello! It's another week!

Arlo's starting his busy weekend with a playdate at HarborLand.

Yay, Yay, Yay!

In no time, Arlo found the wheels.

Our little monkey is not so little anymore: he completes his 11th month this week! He has another friend’s birthday party. And he starts a new swimming class, in a new level!
