Bangkok Week 613

It’s Granny’s last week here; it’s Arlo’s first week without K. Noi; and our day-to-day becomes much more home-centric than ever before.

The neighbor's bathroom construction involved the jackhammer today. So off to the park went Dad, Arlo and K. Noi.

Bangkok Week 612

Our little Arlo turns 6 months old this week… and he’s not so little anymore! And lucky for him, he gets to celebrate with so many grandparents!

Arlo expands his palette into fruit this week! Bananas and apples - yum yum!

Starting off the week with a smile: hello!

Granny's still here! Yay!

And sitting like a big boy on the couch. Arlo can even feel the plant leaves, just like a big boy.

So many things happened this week! Granny arrived. Arlo started eating solids. Arlo realized he loves solids.

Breakfast time: Arlo's quite pleased to have his ball and William. But little does he know who else will be joining him soon...

Arlo starts to work on sitting up this week… but he still prefers to stand!

Arlo's high chair is good for things other than eating.

He's wondering why the beads don't come closer to him.

Time flies! Arlo turns 5 months this week; and Mum spends her first night away from him.

Arlo turns 5 months old today!

This chair is a great way to capture his growth.

(That said, it's getting harder and harder to take these photos each month!)

Bangkok Week 607

As a last hoorah before Mum goes back to work, we visit Singapore to enjoy the clean air and kid-friendly attractions.

And we're off! Arlo's excited to be in a big fancy car!

"Wait a minute," he thinks. "I've been here before, and it did't end well..."

In good spirits as we settle in for the short and empty flight.

"Woah! Mum! Look at the moving pictures! Have you seen such a thing before!?"

Happily entertained throughout almost the entire flight. It's convenient to have the car seat!

We're here! Our digs in Singapore for the next 3 days.

We're all ready for our day out: a trip to the zoo!

It was a 25 minute subway ride, and then another 10 minutes by bus. "This better be worth it!" Arlo says.

Greeted by some turtles, airing their heads.

These guys, which were some of the cutest residents, are Rock Hyrax... no relation to the wombat!

Our first time seeing a tree kangaroo.

They also have some Asian Elephants. Who were wondering why they had to reach so high for their food.

There are quite a few Orangutan - at least these guys are safe from the Indonesian fires.

They seem to have a nice play area.

In fact, they're free to roam outside their enclosure. Look up!

This guy has seen better days. (Or maybe he just likes people-watching...)

Stopping for lunch, and regrouping. What's our plan for the afternoon?

We stumbled upon a very nice butterfly enclosure.

Many many butterflies.

Blues, gathering on some freshly-cut pineapple.

And the first time seeing Toucan Sam in real life!

And not sure who this guy is either, but he wasn't afraid to flaunt his fruit in our faces!

They're so amazingly large! And kind of clumsy: one tried to climb over another to get to the food.

Apparently they are ~80 years old. Arlo wasn't very impressed.

Back at the hotel, Arlo's decided to practice some of the moves he learned at the zoo from the other monkeys.

But he would enjoy dad's dinner even more!

Hey! It's Dad and Arlo, trying to figure out where exactly we are!

First attraction is the flower dome: the largest greenhouse in the world.

The highlight was the Baobabs and the Succulent Garden, at the top.

Look at all these alien cacti.

Fuzzy and with flowers.

Like a little flowering pin cushion!

Arlo liked that it was nice and cool inside (it mimics a cool-dry Mediterranean climate)... and with great views.

Let's not forget that Singapore's still celebrating CNY!

Next up: Cloud Forest! t replicates the cool moist conditions found in tropical mountain regions between 1000m and 3000m.

The greenhouse centerpiece is a 42m-tall "mountain" covered in plants.

There are lots of walkways with great views that take you back down the side of the mountain.

We were fortunate to see many unique orchids, including this one.

And this one.

There were many, many different kinds of pitcher plants.

And many, many kinds of bromeliads -- all doing better than ours!

Dad soaks up the views on the walk down.

Arlo napped through a lot of the walk, but Mum still enjoyed it.

It's an engineering feat that such a large glass house doesn't require any additional interior supports!

The Cloud Mountain makes sure to mist its plants regularly.

The next morning at breakfast, Arlo decided he's big enough to sit on his own.

Back at home! Arlo is spending the holiday Monday morning hanging out with Auntie Erika's penguins.

Uh oh. He realizes that, despite the holiday, swimming is still on!

In the afternoon, Arlo gets a visit from Autnie Anne, one of Dad's friends from undergrad.

Puu visits for the first time since November. And we entertain ourselves at home, as the combo Coronavirus x air quality limit our activity options.

Since the Coronavirus cancellation of organized playgroups, we've started our own. On Friday, Arlo was invited to his friend Sally's house.

Back at home, he strengthens his arm and neck muscles.

Master Arlo moves into his own bedroom this week, and eventually into his big-boy bed! Apart from that, he keeps rolling, and rolling, and rolling…

We're not quite ready to get out of bed yet!

Little Arlo turns 4 months this week, and gets to visit the doctor to celebrate. Lucky boy! And lucky Mum and Dad to have such a healthy, long little troublemaker!

Arlo is still rolling over uncontrollably. He probably wants to crawl too, but we're not quite there yet.

January 9, 2020

It’s Arlo’s first week back in Bangkok, and we pull out all the stops to keep him awake during the day, and back on Thai time!

Finally! We're home!

Arlo is excited to be back!

And he gets his last Christmas present... the one that's been waiting for him under the tree, until his neck is a little stronger.

"Woah! What's this, Mum?"

Monday morning, chatting with Yaa and Puu, now that he's back in the same time zone.

Arlo's happy that Dino made it back with him.

And Hudson Bear, too.

Look at all the friends Arlo has now. What a lucky boy he is!

He can barely stay awake while he plays with his favorite owl.

Christmas 2019 Week 3

Arlo enjoys his last week in Toronto — and in particular, the special visit from Bonnie and Bob, who came all the way up from NJ to meet him! Thank you everyone for the fun holiday, and Happy 2020!

We begin this week with a continued fascination of Christmas mugs.

Christmas 2019 Week 1

December 21, 2019

Master Arlo travels over 13,600 km — exactly half-way around the world — to celebrate his first Christmas in Toronto!

Checking in for our flights: Arlo knows something is up, but has no idea what!

"Dad! Will you please tell me what's going on? Also, this is a nice lounge."

Impressed by the nursing/changing room in the EVA lounge. They even provide clean diapers!

On board for the first of our two flights - the easy one.

Look! They gave us diapers for Master, too.

He's still not sure what's going on.

A quick update on the Suvarnabhumi Satellite Terminal construction: exterior almost complete, as are the jet bridges.

And we're off to Taipei!

Our little Master turns 3 months this (short) week — and then we head off to Toronto for the holidays!

Bangkok Week 598

The countdown to Christmas is on!

Bleh. So this is what Arlo thinks of Fridays!

"Hi Mum! I am just going to gaze lovingly into your eyes while you shop!"

Have we mentioned that it's chilly in Bangkok? Even the soi dogs have sweaters on.

This is how Arlo naps now; a major upgrade from on a person, in the carrier.

It's been a while since we've had an edition of "The Many Faces of Master Arlo".

"Good morning, Mum! Was I good last night?

Arlo's psyched for the winter weather.

"Bring it on, cold!"

Finally, we're excited for Christmas.

Bangkok Week 597

We celebrate our first Fathers’ Day, while Arlo wonders what this giant tree is doing in his living room.

We pop into the EVA office, to start familiarizing Arlo with the aircraft he's going to be taking in a few weeks' time.

Bangkok Week 596

This week, Arlo takes his first road trip: to visit Bu, Yaa, and Aa Top in Trat! Yay!

"Woah! It's another week!"

This week, Arlo starts to travel around Bangkok by foot! What a big boy he is.

Arlo's thrilled to be starting Friday with yet another car ride.

He's much more comfortable at home, chilling on his elephant.
