Bangkok Week 947

We continue to settle into our new school routine this week: new timetables, new uniform schedules, new wake-up times. But the fun continues. And the August butterfly contingent continues to grow.

On the weekend, we also enjoy a relaxing Saturday at Inn Train; and the kids get to try roller blading on a smooth surface for once. How novel!

Bangkok Week 946

This is it! The week everyone’s been waiting for! School is back in session! But before that, we have a fun visit with P’Kate and her family; a double-dose of ballet for Lucy; lots of August butterflies; and a messy, muddy, fun time at Get Growing Community Farm in Bang Krachao on the Mother’s Day Wednesday.

School resumed on Thursday, with a New Students’ orientation on Tuesday and a “Meet the Teachers” session for all. It’s going to be another good year!

Bangkok Week 945

We start this week in Granny & Grandpa withdrawal. That means that Mum & Dad are roped into playing Mancala and Åsna. On Saturday afternoon, we finally make it over to the new Dusit Central Park (at the site of the old Dusit Thani hotel) and check out their snazzy new park in the sky. And on Sunday, it’s a morning at our favorite Em-complex, the park, and everyone’s favorite Swedish restaurant.

In other news, the caterpillar from Trat has emerged as a Pellucid hawk moth (on the same morning as one Swallowtail cousin) … and Arlo gets his glasses!

Bangkok Week 944

It’s Granny & Grandpa’s last week in Bangkok, and it’s a packed one! After long overdue haircuts on Friday, we enjoy fresh pastries for breakfast at Conkey’s on Saturday. Then after lessons, we head to Chinatown to check out the oh-so-hip Songwat neighborhood, and afterward, an art fair along the canal. On Sunday, we jump into the car and head west to visit a model train cafe and farm x restaurant.

If that weren’t enough, on the holiday Tuesday, we head north to the Rama IX Museum (the best of the lot in my humble opinion). And on holiday Wednesday, Granny & Grandpa take Lucy stating while we take Arlo to choose his first pair of glasses. And then it’s a playdate with Emily to round out the fun.

The only downer was saying good-bye to Granny & Grandpa on Thursday night. Until next time!

Bangkok Week 943

July Butterfly Bonanza continues this week! And we spent the weekend in Trat, with the full gang, for the annual family merit-making. (The butterflies came too, of course; and we returned with a +1.)

Bangkok Week 942

This week marks the beginning of our July Butterfly Bonanza! We also take a train trip across the river to the 2026 Thailand Diecast Car Expo. And then finally enjoy a day at Harbor Island.

Bangkok Week 941

Summer holidays are officially in full swing! Lucy hosts lunch and a play date with her ballet friends on Saturday; and then we make a trip to our favorite Decathlon, using Arlo’s swim fins as an excuse. On Sunday morning, we visited Happy Healthy Bike Lane (the skies were slightly overcast!) and the kids spent most of their time in the adventure park; and then enjoyed lunch at everyone’s favorite Inn Train. And Grandpa took Lucy ice skating, while Arlo had his annual heart check-up. We’re off to a roaring start!

Bangkok Week 940

Over the weekend, we hosted a farewell party for Fuku, Yoshi, and their family before leaving for Vietnam. This week also marked the end of the Annabel’s school year, and the bitter-sweet end of our 5 years at the school. Onward and upward!

Bangkok Week 939

Friday marks Arlo’s last day of school, and last day of Year 1! Congratulations on a great year, Arlo! Meanwhile, Mum meets Baby Colin in Toronto and attends Julia & Taylor’s wedding. Arlo, Lucy, and Dad go to Inn Train together one final time before Mum returns home… and Granny & Grandpa are right on her heels. They will be here with us for the next 5 weeks. Bring on the summer holidays!

Bangkok Week 938

This weekend, Mum headed to Boston. But before that, Arlo published his first Library Book and Lucy signed up for ballet. In Mum’s absence, Arlo & Lucy enjoyed Inn Train with Dad; Arlo turned 6 years and 9 months old; and Year 1 enjoyed their year-end Fairytale Ball.

In Boston, Mum enjoyed some great weather, the Scots, and a dinner with Uncle James.

Bangkok Week 937

This week, Arlo lost his first two teeth within a mater of hours; Lucy tried her first ballet class and loved it; we visited a great national Thai craft fair at Queen Sirikit, followed by a visit to Benjakitti Park; Lucy went to the birthday party of one of her best friends; and Lucy performed in her final assembly at Annabel’s.

Bangkok Week 936

It was a long weekend here, and one filled with lots of physical activity! On Saturday morning, we participated in our third consecutive Rainbow Run - always a fun time! The family outfit colors were selected by Arlo & Lucy this year; and Lucy and Mum “ran” the 5k for the first time. On Sunday, we got on our bikes for a trip around Rot Fai park, which we chose because of its ample monkey bars. On Monday, during her day off, Lucy went ice skating with Emily; and then on Tuesday, Mum & Kate did another loop around the airport on the Happy & Healthy bike track. We closed the week with a visit to the dentist, who was very happy with both sets of teeth :)

Bangkok Week 935

This week, Arlo competed in a swim meet hosted at the STA High School (the Mini-Marlem Mayhem) - and he’s improving every competition! Lucy celebrated Clem’s 5th birthday with a fun pizza party. And on Sunday, we supported a neighbor’s fundraising effort by hosting a stall to make caterpillar puppets.
In other news, the caterpillars are growing fast and pooping up a storm!

Bangkok Week 934

This weekend, we finally made it down to One Bangkok, and were pleasantly surprised! We also returned for a bike around Nong Bon park, and a relaxed afternoon at our renewed fave, Inn Train. Otherwise, it’s starting to feel like the school year is winding down!

Bangkok Week 933

This week, we had a really fun time at Aya’s birthday party - it was like a huge Annabel’s reunion. The kids also got Mum hair cutz. Then, we enjoyed another breakfast at Conkey’s, and an afternoon at a Curtain’s Up performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. During the week, Lucy had her Taster Day at STA; and Arlo had a friendly swim meet against Bangkok Prep. And Arlo turned 6 years and 8 months old. Phew!

Bangkok Week 932

It’s another busy week! Mum got back from India just in time for Lucy’s final Stay-and-Play at Annabel’s. Then over the weekend, we went for her ear follow-up; then an art exhibit at Paragon; and Happy & Healthy Bike Lane (where Mum & Kate tried the real loop for the first time).

Bangkok Week 931

This weekend, we went to a Thai traditional craft demonstration at Emporium and enjoyed a gourmet breakfast at Conkey’s. Then Mum was off to India for the week, while Dad did an admirable job holding down the fort. Arlo experienced his first Sports Day at STA, which was a fun community event.

Bangkok Week 930

Everyone returns home on Friday: from Trat, and from London.

And then it’s one last fun weekend biking at Benjakitti and reading at TK Park Library (CentralWorld) before returning to the normal school routine!

Bangkok Week 929

We enter the 2nd week of the school holidays with a few playdates: one with Arlo’s best friend, and another with Lucy’s best friend.

And then on Sunday, Dad and the kids are off to Trat, while Mum is off to London for work. It ends up being a 5-day stay in Trat, including the entire Songkran holiday. Lots of time well-spent, and lots of red ice eaten!

Bangkok Week 928

One final day of school, and then we kick off the Songkran break! We see what it’s like to celebrate Songkran at a big school (answer: large-scale, but organized). Then Lucy has her ear surgery (what a trooper), and is back in the pool by the end of that day. We visit another science museum in that same campus north of Bangkok; and have fun with a big ice-skating party bright and early at 9am on the holiday Monday. Otherwise, everyone gets their flu vaccines, so we’re ready for another season!
