Bangkok Week 930

Everyone returns home on Friday: from Trat, and from London.

And then it’s one last fun weekend biking at Benjakitti and reading at TK Park Library (CentralWorld) before returning to the normal school routine!

Bangkok Week 929

We enter the 2nd week of the school holidays with a few playdates: one with Arlo’s best friend, and another with Lucy’s best friend.

And then on Sunday, Dad and the kids are off to Trat, while Mum is off to London for work. It ends up being a 5-day stay in Trat, including the entire Songkran holiday. Lots of time well-spent, and lots of red ice eaten!

Bangkok Week 928

One final day of school, and then we kick off the Songkran break! We see what it’s like to celebrate Songkran at a big school (answer: large-scale, but organized). Then Lucy has her ear surgery (what a trooper), and is back in the pool by the end of that day. We visit another science museum in that same campus north of Bangkok; and have fun with a big ice-skating party bright and early at 9am on the holiday Monday. Otherwise, everyone gets their flu vaccines, so we’re ready for another season!

Bangkok Week 927

It’s the last full week of school before the 2-week Songkran break for both kids… but not before earning it! Arlo swam in the Puppy Dash, another swimming competition for beginners at Bangkok Prep. Lucy had her hearing tested (yet again) by a different doc at a different hospital, with a different set of next steps. And the kids celebrated Songkran at school.

Bangkok Week 926

Another big week! On Friday, our little princess, Lucy, turned 4 and celebrated with all her friends at school. She also finally got the Elsa dress she’s been asking for. Then on Saturday, it was the annual St Andrews Fun Fair at the high school - in the peak of the March heat. And on Sunday, we enjoyed a performance of Where the Wild Things Are. And Arlo’s class held their sock toy fundraiser.

On top of all that, the butterflies are laying eggs in abundance; and Lucy and Arlo are trying their hands (I mean feet) at roller blading. Phew!

Bangkok Week 925

It’s the first in a series of packed weeks! On Friday, long-awaited book day (or should I say, Dog Man day?) is here! Although it was a bit upsetting for Arlo, who experienced a wardrobe malfunction that was hard to recover from. Then on Saturday, we had Lucy’s birthday playdate (a week early) - which lasted almost all day and left everyone knackered.

Bangkok Week 924

Book Day is inching closer, and our Dog Men are almost ready! Over the weekend, we visited FUTURIUM, one in a series of science and technology museums north of the city - that was surprisingly modern and in good condition. Our little Flash emerged from his chrysalis, but with a damaged wing, so he went to live the rest of his life at the Annabel’s butterfly house. And it’s book & story week there too, so there were lots of special activities in the morning.

Bangkok Week 923

We continue to prepare for Book Week. Lucy catches a bug, and so is home from school for a few days. Flash has turned into a chrysalis (on our cupboard half way across the kitchen; so we’ve had to rope it off to protect him), and we rescue a baby bird that’s been living on the “balcony” behind our bedroom.

Bangkok Week 922

Lucy wraps up her mid-term break, and returns to school - but not before an ice skating reunion with Emily. Otherwise, this is the week of the caterpiillars! Our buddy Flash is all grown up (and we caught him molting)… and we found four GIANT, CUTE, CHUBBY oleander hawk moth caterpillars.

Bangkok Week 921

This week marks the end of Arlo’s school break, and the start of Lucy’s. Unfortunately, the virus Lucy had continued to make its rounds through the house.

Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable weekend, and Lucy made the most of her week off - with play dates and a long-overdue doctor’s visit. Meanwhile, Arlo went back to school and celebrated CNY on the actual date (Tuesday).

Bangkok Week 920

This week marked the start of Arlo’s mid-term school break. He used the week off to relax, play with friends, swim, get a haircut (!!), and spend some quality time at Annabel’s. Lucy, meanwhile, had school as usual — including picture day. She also got a new bed!

The highlight of our week, however, might have been biking around the neighborhood that’s riiiight behind us, but normally inaccessable. But they opened the back gate on election day, and so we got to explore!

Bangkok Week 919

This is the week that Crazy Caterpillar Lady really shows her true colors! But first, a healthy dose of bad air; Maths Day at STA; a playdate with friends; and lots of garden time at both schools.

Bangkok Week 918

The time has come, where we bid farewell to Granny and Grandpa. But not before we send them off with a bang: a fun farewell lunch and lots of hugs.

We also celebrate Emily’s 4th birthday; Dad’s 4Nth birthday; and prepare to celebrate Maths Day!

Bangkok Week 917

This week, Mum is off to Madrid and Paris for work, but the show must go on!

But first: it’s a full-on weekend, with a trip to the park, IKEA, and even some puddle-jumping mixed in. And then another attempt at ice skating with Emily!

Bangkok Week 916

This week begins with the last remnants of pleasant cool winter weather, but ends with a humid and smoggy January.

Nevertheless, Puu comes to visit overnight; we visit Benjakitti Forest Park for the first time in a long time; and our caterpillar enterprise rows by the day.

Bangkok Week 915

At long last, the children go back to school this week! But not before we wrap up some holiday formalities, including decorating the gingerbread houses, and having long-overdue playdates with friends.

We also discovered some plump caterpillars munching their way through our citrus plants, and adopted them as part of the family, effectively starting the next season of caterpillar-watching.

Bangkok Week 914

Happy 2026! 🎆 This week is the time-warp from Boxing Day through New Years Day, where we have no sense of time or place. But, we did do a lot of things!

  • Importantly, Shin Shin 6 (and his cousins 3 and 4 across town) emerged from their cocoons as healthy but homely Hawk Moths, and flew away to complete their short lifecycles.

  • We went ice skating ⛸️ twice (for the first time in exactly two years); Lucy is progressing well for a beginner, and Arlo is finding his skating feet again.

  • We spent New Year’s Eve at Happy & Healthy Bike Lane with Emily and her family

  • We even got in a few swims! 💦

Bangkok Week 913

What a milestone-filled week!

We all piled into the car and headed down to Rayong Marriott 🏖️ for 3 nights - as is now tradition. On the way, we stopped at Air Diamond Cafe & Resort, which … is a retired A340 ✈️, and an attraction in itself! At the Marriott this year, the (new) water slides were the piece-de-resistance, where Lucy brought stand-out fearlessness!

We returned to Bangkok just in time for a holiday party at Pree’s house, and then we celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in a rather casual way at home. Santa 🎅 was very generous with Arlo and Lucy again - bringing new rides 🚲 🛴 for both of them!

Merry Christmas! 🎄

Bangkok Week 912

This week, we wrap up school for the (calendar) year… and then welcome Granny and Grandpa back to Bangkok for the holidays! Whoo!
